“My America is THE HISTORY OF RESISTANCE TO COLONIALISM AND VARIOUS KINDS OF RACIST, SEXIST, OPPRESSIONS UNDER CAPITALISM.” – Jesse

Jesse – January 12th, 2014

I met Jesse at Dolores Park. As soon as I approached her I knew she had something to say. I began to tell her about my project, she looked at her friend Lindsay and laughed; they were not making fun of me, but laughed in sense of “where do I begin…”.

I think it’s fair to say Jesse is a seasoned a protestor and activist. Very conscious of politics and societal issues, she talked to me about her various experiences with labor rights and the Occupy movement.

I admire people like Jesse. I’m in my mid-twenties and not until recently have I seriously attempted to get involved with movements and politics I support (or oppose). I aspire to be more like her by being in touch with what’s going on around me, and utilizing the voice and freedom I have to make progress.
